PLAIN LANGUAGE

New to the NDIS or still trying to make sense of it all?

These plain language guides we have created cover the questions we get asked most often.

What is a plan review?

A plan review is when the NDIA reassesses your NDIS plan to make sure your funding still reflects your needs and goals. Reviews usually happen every twelve months but can be requested sooner if your circumstances change significantly. A good plan review can result in increased funding, new support categories, or changes to how your plan is managed. Preparation matters — documenting what is working, what is not, and what your goals are for the next period gives you the best chance of a strong outcome. WTC can help you prepare.

How does my NDIS plan work?

Your NDIS plan is a document that outlines your goals and the funding the NDIA has approved to help you achieve them. Your funding is divided into three budget categories — Core Supports, Capacity Building, and Capital Supports. Each category can only be used for certain types of supports. Your plan has a start date and an end date — usually twelve months — and is reviewed regularly. Understanding how to use your plan effectively is one of the most important things a Support Coordinator can help you with.

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme is an Australian Government program that funds support for people with a permanent and significant disability. It is not a welfare payment — it is individualised funding that belongs to you, designed to help you live the life you choose. Eligibility is based on your age, residency, and the impact your disability has on your daily life. If you are approved, you receive an NDIS plan with a budget you can use to purchase the supports you need.
